Twitter’s new animated map illustrates how Beyonce took over the world. Except Russia.

Twitter has unveiled a map detailing how news of Beyonce’s new album spread across the social media world like wildfire last week. It’s a bit like that scene in WarGames — only much more serious.

The no-advance-promo, iTunes-only Beyoncé sold 828,773 copies in three days, Apple announced Monday. It also set records for tweets, amassing roughly 1.2 million in the 24 hours after its Friday release, making it one of the biggest music releases of the year at a time when everyone was busy finalizing those pesky Year-End lists.

The map below shows how word of the album spread, as the bright purple lights are used to indicate geotagged tweets. It clearly illustrates one thing — near global dominance.

New York and London glow with their affection for Queen Bey. But it leaves us wondering — why Russia gotta hate?

Beyonce’s global takeover comes to the TD Garden in Boston on December 20.
