Punk rock Hans Gruber: Watch the two-minute trailer for upcoming biopic ‘CBGB’

In a role that feels a bit like Steve Coogan as Tony Wilson in 24 Hour Party People, Alan Rickman will portray CBGB owner Hilly Kristal in a new biopic simply titled CBGB. The film is set for limited release October 11, and to get us worked up into a filthy lather, the two-minute trailer just surfaced this afternoon.

The sweeping teaser touches on all the expected faces in the legendary punk club’s ’70s origins and peak history, including the Talking Heads, Dead Boys, the Police, Blondie, and the Ramones. Foo Fighters’ Taylor Hawkins even plays Iggy Pop.

An iconic breeding ground for punk and new wave in New York City, CBGB closed after 33 years in October 2006. Kristal died a year later from lung cancer complications.

Unsurprisingly, the film’s soundtrack is pretty awesome, featuring tracks from the bands cited above as well as MC5, New York Dolls, and Television. CBGB: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is out October 8 via Omnivore Recordings.
