Britney Spears’ ‘Ooh La La,’ from the Smurfs 2 soundtrack, is a lesson in family-friendly pain

[dropcap]W[/dropcap]ell, hey, a few heavy hitters released some pretty fucked up music videos this summer. There must be something sinister in the special, for-famous-people-only drinking water.

Miley Cyrus’ “We Can’t Stop” baffled fans with giant teddy bears, a skull made of french fries, a shot of a guy lying in a pile of bread, and the former Hannah Montana’s accidentally-racist attempts to twerk. Meanwhile, Trent Reznor and David Lynch put their heads together to induce many seizures with a spastic clip for “Came Back Haunted.” Both of those videos were kooky.

However, this new Smurfs 2 soundtrack song thing from Britney Spears ruffled my brain feathers more than Trent and Miley’s efforts combined.

Spears certainly wouldn’t be the first artist/performer/brand to bounce from the depths of sleaze to family-friendly affairs. But for some reason, I’m having difficulty digesting the idea that this person winking at Smurfette in “Ooh La La” also performed “If You Seek Amy” and “3” not that long ago. Making matters more difficult, “Oooh La La” sinks to a near “Friday”-nadir of terribleness. But the incongruous mental images and the crappy song still aren’t the most irksome elements here. There is something very fucking unsettling about the CGI Smurfs.

So anyway, this isn’t fun to watch or listen to. But it’s Friday, so all bets are off.

Watch and listen to it if you like to hurt yourself.
