Tune in to UNregular Radio at noon as Vanyaland crashes the debut of The Void

The Void

[dropcap]U[/dropcap]p until recently, Sabrina Boyd and I used to spend many hours trapped in the same room together. That same room was also passed off as an online radio studio, and there, along with program director Mike Gioscia and executive producer, the music director team of Boyd and I steered the no-rules radio ship that was WFNX.com. The run lasted six months, but we had a blast and our playlists were second to none, creative and cutting-edge and full of chances and personal flair. The WFNX.com experience was punk as fuck, not a corporate yawn-fest overrun by food pics and photo-ops.

Of course, the dream ended in mid-March when Phoenix Media Communications Company went under, dropping the axe on WFNX.com and the Phoenix (I was gainfully employed by both, as music director and music editor, respectfully).

But I’m thrilled to report that Boyd is back on the air, this time at UNregular Radio hosted by DigBoston (of all places), and her new show, The Void, debuts today at noon. I’ll be a guest, along with members of the Milling Gowns, Parlour Bells, and others.

“Insert Void Boyd pun here — it’s Tuesday and Thursday from noon to 2pm,” Boyd tells Vanyaland. “The idea is two hours of all things alternative — so new music, alt, indie, and local, and guests talking about everything from alternative energy sources to alternative sexuality. All out of the mainstream kind of things. The regular show without guests is going to revolve around some of the features I did on FNX — Chicks Who Rock, Album of the Week, Shit Liam Gallagher Says — and a few new bits.”

Sign us up. We’re already in talks to do some sort of Vanyaland report, so stay tuned. In the meantime, it’ll be good to make cat noises and talk shit with ‘Brina once again. Like those old, miserable times in the broomcloset, drunken silence only briefly interrupted by the hookers embedded behind the wall.
