Listen to Haim’s (kinda) new irresistible guitar-pop single, ‘The Wire’ / 09.01.13 @ the Paradise

Haim’s new single “The Wire” has technically been in the Los Angeles quartet’s repertoire for over a year now, making appearances in their 2012 Daytrotter and other live sessions. However the studio version released yesterday sounds like it was taken for a drive through the wash and after a quick wax on wax off, the result is a polished guitar-pop single that will be stuck in your head through Labor Day.

Which is a good thing, since the band with a name that rhymes with “time” hits the Paradise Rock Club on September 1.

Haim have long drawn comparisons to Fleetwood Mac, but at first listen “The Wire” evokes the ghost of one Freddie Mercury. Opening stomp-claps give way to breathy and theatrical vocals. Throw in some charging guitar licks and a subliminal dash of Eagles worship, and our interest is piqued for fall’s full length release. It’s good to be Queens.
