Studio 52 Spotlight: daisybones
What Studio 52 Says: Indie rock quartet daisybones may have only released their first full-length last spring, but in the year after they’ve gained a significant following of fans drawn to their scornful and self-proclaimed lethargic rock. They uploaded their latest single “Scratch” this May, following quick little track “frog.png” that was released a month prior. “Scratch” is a fitting title as it scratches the itch we’ve been afflicted by for new daisybones music and we feel more than satiated. Opening with a riff that would make Hall & Oates tap-dance in their graves [Editor’s Note: Both Hall and Oates are still alive], the song kicks into gear with a hyperactive chorus and is chased down with their style of biting lyrics we’ve come to admire in its honesty. Their aforementioned album gusto released last April is a tempered icon of unadulterated indie rock overloaded with all the fuzz you’ll ever need. Our favorite track “Jerusalem” has us singing along “live fast but kill me quick, I know I’m just a piece of shit” with an unremitting grin on our faces. In all honesty, the members of daisybones bring fresh talent combined with interminable passion and the chops of a band far beyond their years. You can tell they write music they enjoy to play and it shows when they’re on stage. See for yourself tonight (August 3) at O’Brien’s Pub in Allston when daisybones are joined by Fish House, Full Walrus, and Bowling Shoes. — Andrew Maroney, Studio 52
