A new music venue could be landing in Salem as soon as next month.

Moon, a nonprofit supporting the North Shore’s underground music scene, has announced plans to establish an all-ages venue called Moon Base One in early 2025. The new creative hub and performance space will be located within Artists’ Row, a marketplace on Derby Street in the heart of downtown Salem. As a “fully-dedicated live music venue,” Moon Base One will be the only establishment of its kind in Greater Salem, where performance opportunities typically exist within bars and restaurants like Koto, the Gulu-Gulu Cafe, and Mercy Tavern.

Moon announced the plans for Moon Base One this week (December 3) in alignment with Giving Tuesday, asking for donations to help establish the space. The announcement explained that the venue will move into the Artists’ Row stall currently occupied by Chagall PAC, an interdisciplinary art collaborative. Moon will outfit the space with a sound system and redesigned performance area, creating a “place where musicians and their fans can experience live music, safely and inclusively,” according to the announcement.

Founded this year by a trio of musicians — Ali Lipman, Tyler Zucco-Bernard, and Mat Petrone — Moon’s other contributions to the area include booking local shows and the Moon Over Salem music festival, as well as founding the Rising Artist Scholarship Fund.
