Giant balloons have been no stranger to Jenny Lewis’ live shows over the years, but over the weekend in Boston, one balloon in particular decided to hang around the musician’s orbit a little longer than usual. And hey, who can blame it? Lewis was wrapping up her set at Roadrunner in Brighton this past Saturday (July 15) when a rogue balloon just decided to hover over her and her band as they performed set closer “Acid Tongue.”
Lewis was understandably perplexed by the balloon, and suggested it may be “haunted” as she told the crowd that she and her band had so far stayed in two haunted hotels on tour — one at a former insane asylum in Buffalo, and another in Chicago, which has been apparently visited by a spirit named Peg Leg Johnny.
But there was no real explanation for this balloon’s stubbornness. And since Bowery venue Roadrunner just opened last year, we don’t think it’s haunted by any ghosts of performers past just yet. But hey, to quote famous Bostonian Kevin Garnett, anything is possible.
“Shit’s pretty weird out there, you know,” Lewis told the Roadrunner audience. “I’d believe anything at this point.”
Check out the scene below, with those capturing evidence for social media calling it both “mysterious” and “demonic.”
Meanwhile, Lewis’ tour continues Tuesday night at The Rooftop at Pier 17 in New York City. Her new album Joy’All is out now.
