When Millyz performed a headlining set at The Paradise Rock Club last winter, he made damn sure the cameras were rolling. The Massachusetts rapper flashes footage from the sold-out show into his new video for “Love/Hate” (released yesterday, April 12) the first release from his forthcoming May album Blanco 5.
Alongside featured Boston emcee Gio Dee, Millyz uses “Love/Hate” to craft a treat for the fans and a taunt for the naysayers. “Sometimes the love and hate can look identical” he raps, trying to sniff out cynics who can’t stand to see anyone in the 617 succeed. As the video’s view count rises — over 83,000 as of print time — his point only grows stronger.
“Started out small, now we all doin’ numbers,” Gio Dee chimes in on the refrain, calling to mind his own buzzy video for “Save It” and Millyz’s Billboard-charting record Blanco 4. Across streams, downloads, and ticket sales, it’s clear that both artists are feeling the love. We predict comments from critics won’t slow those “numbers” anytime soon.
