For whatever reason, the College Football Championship game last night between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Clemson Tigers (a rout in the making for the South Carolinians, if the third quarter results still stand by the end of the night) had a halftime show, and it was, well, an odd one. Imagine Dragons took the stage, joined by a masked Lil Wayne, who dropped odd muffled bars over the former’s stadium rock. We imagine that the promised new Captain Marvel preview was the only thing preventing plenty of viewers from changing the channel, though it was pre-empted by a pretty lame featurette.
In the spirit of what our corporate overlords at Disney intended, here’s the featurette first:
Well, great! You got to see Brie Larson take to the skies with the men and women of the Air Force, which is fine, we guess. But are you ready for some brand-spanking-new footage? Some humor, maybe? Something that teases that this movie might not be as portentous as it seemed a few previews ago? Well, you’re in luck!
Here’s the sneak peek:
So, we’re not totally sold on this just yet — it’s an odd choice to have directors like Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden helming a giant project like this — but we’re really starting to warm up to Brie Larson as Captain Marvel. At least they can’t use the “period” setting any worse than Bumblebee did. Anyways, we are cautiously excited!
Here’s a synopsis:
“Set in the 1990s, Marvel Studios’ ‘Captain Marvel’ is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that follows the journey of Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes. While a galactic war between two alien races reaches Earth, Danvers finds herself and a small cadre of allies at the center of the maelstrom.”
Captain Marvel hits theaters on March 8, International Women’s Day. Get your tickets now.
