The Far Out are headed far, far out to Winchendon this month for Montapalooza Music Festival.
No, that’s not an autocorrection of “Lollapalooza” gone awry — the festival is a new attraction in the Montachusett region of the state, which includes cities like Clinton, Leominster, and Fitchburg. Montapalooza debuts Saturday, May 30 at Winchendon Community Park & Amphitheater with an all-day slate of live music and a curated selection of local vendors and food trucks.
The two-stage affair runs from noon to 9 p.m., with performers John Gerard, The Bluesberries, The Rusty Truck Saloon Band, and The Can Collectors hitting the acoustic “sun stage,” and Joey Wit, Hotel Saturn, The Maladaptive, Kilroy, and The Far Out (pictured above) taking over the “water stage.”
Montapalooza is the brainchild of co-organizers Winchendon Parks & Recreation, Montachusett TV, Sound Bites Events, and and the locally-based podcast Scene Mom Says. While the fest was designed to “showcase and celebrate independent musicians, strengthen community connections, and highlight the creative culture of the Montachusett region,” per a press release, the lineup’s footprint extends beyond North-Central Massachusetts.
Some out-of-county bands include Kilroy, who hail from Keene, New Hampshire; Northampton’s The Maladaptive; and North Shore-born funk-pop headliners The Far Out, who performed live at last year’s Boston Music Awards.
