We don’t know exactly why, but we’re pretty sure that you need a laugh today. Paramount figured the same thing (or, well, happened to have accidentally great timing), so they dropped the trailer for the new Scary Movie, which was attached to screenings of Scream 7 this past weekend. Weirdly enough, it actually feels like it’s right about time for another one of these flicks — the horrible heyday of a Friedberg/Seltzer parody movie hitting theaters every other month has long passed by, and there’s plenty of new horror to make fun of. Speaking of which, Scary Movie 3 actually holds up (Vanyaland 2021 Performer of the Year Simon Rex and Charlie Sheen, what a combo), so if you have a hankering to watch some goofy shit to keep your eyes off the news, go and check that out.
Anyway, they’ve got shout-outs to Weapons, Terrifier, The Substance, Smile, Longlegs, and everything you could possibly want in a modern-day parody feature. Even better, the OGs are back, with Anna Faris and Regina Hall once again leading the cast. So, yeah, this seems like a pretty fun time at the movies.
Peep it:
Here’s a synopsis for Scary Movie:
“Twenty-six years after outrunning a suspiciously familiar masked killer (‘Ghostface’), the Core Four are back in the killer’s crosshairs and no horror movie IP is safe. Marlon Wayans (‘Shorty’), Shawn Wayans (‘Ray’), Anna Faris (‘Cindy’), and Regina Hall (‘Brenda’) reunite in ‘Scary Movie’ alongside returning favorites and fresh faces to slash through reboots, remakes, requels, prequels, sequels, spin-offs, elevated horror, origin stories, anything with the word legacy in it, and every ‘final chapter’ that absolutely isn’t final. Nothing is sacred. No trope survives. Every line gets crossed. The Wayans are back to cancel the Cancel Culture.”
Scary Movie hits theaters on June 12
