Baby J, Kid Gorgeous, Mister Whatever. Doesn’t matter. Mulaney in five.
Five shows that is.
With a triumphant return reminiscent of his lengthy stays in the past, John Mulaney makes his way back to Boston this week as part of his Mister Whatever tour, which sets up for a five-show run in the city, starting on Thursday (September 25) at Wang Theatre.
The new tour has welcomed in a new batch of material, and thus a new era of Mulaney’s increasingly decorated career on stage, but it certainly isn’t the loudest we’ve heard him since his last trip through town. While he has continued to bring the heat in a live setting, oftentimes alongside friends like Jon Stewart, Pete Davidson, Mike Birbiglia, Nick Kroll, and Fred Armisen, Mulaney also capitalized on his smash-hit introduction to a late-night hosting gig the debut of his wildly successful (and gloriously strange) Everbody’s In LA on Netflix in 2024.
The mind of Mulaney remains a vast and ever-evolving landscape of oddity and profane enjoyment, arguably more so as he gets older and branches out beyond stand-up. But in all honesty, there’s nothing like catching him in his natural habitat on stage, so do it sooner rather than later if you can.
