Why toast a 10th anniversary with some traditional hunk of aluminum when STL GLD can fete the occasion with a new tune?
After a decade of molding Boston’s arts scene, the local hip-hip titans have a lot to reflect on — and flex about. Since forming in 2014, STL GLD’s résumé has swelled to include four albums, the creation of the hyper-local GLD FSTVL, and barrier-breaking collaborations with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Museum of Fine Arts, and the Peabody Essex Museum.
But as a group who’s always sketching the blueprint for a better tomorrow, STL GLD keep their focus on the future with their new single “Don’t Look Back.” The new song arrived last week (October 25) in alignment with STL GLD’s tenth anniversary celebration at the Museum of Fine Arts. Former Boston folk standout Anjimile (who’s now based in North Carolina) and New Jersey emcee Rasheed Chappell both contribute vocals to the track, bookending Moe Poe’s bars.
“This is forever-ever / For whomever need to hear it / My spirit will not surrender,” Pope raps, a perfect encapsulation of STL GLD’s signature sense of realism and tenacity.
