Misuser and *BR corrode dark electronica in new music video ‘Rust’

Screengrab

After teetering on the precipice of an apocalypse for what feels like an eternity, it’s hard not to occasionally imagine a world that’s either razed and rotted beyond recognition. And in that vacant hellscape, a banged-up boombox sits alone, still blaring one of humanity’s final warning cries: “By the morning, it’s too late, too late.”

The lyrics stem from “Rust,” the new release from Boston’s Misuser (formerly ksrmr) and *BR (Quarters of Change member Ben Roter). The pair’s new music video (released May 25) corrodes their dark electronica, stretching it into an expansive industrial wasteland as they echo each other’s surrendering lyrics: “I fear I’m going under / Count another day / The world is going under.” The mood warps from ruinous to wistful, with Misuser ultimately musing “When I’m gone, what will I leave behind?” This doomsday duet, for one.
