If you watch the trailer for Pamela Adlon’s Babes and think to yourself, Hey, didn’t I see this a decade ago? Well, we’re here to tell you that the movie you’re thinking of is Obvious Child (which was a pretty swell flick) and that Ilana Glazer and Jenny Slate look nothing alike. Seriously, what’s happening with your memory recently? One day you’re leaving your keys in a fish bowl, the next day you’re telling stories about the time you and Abraham Lincoln got together to take down some vampires. You might want to see an expert sometime soon, because next thing you know you’ll be thinking that you were a part of Milli Vanilli.
Anyway, Babes is a pretty raunchy take on a similar premise — lady gets pregnant after a one-night-stand and decides to keep it, much to the chagrin of her best pal — and is directed by Bobby Hill herself, and as undying fans of King of the Hill we’re just going to have to watch it no matter what. Neon dropped a trailer for the film on Thursday, and sure enough, it looks pretty funny. Who would have guessed?
Peep it:
Here’s a synopsis:
“‘Babes’ follows inseparable childhood best friends Eden (Ilana Glazer) and Dawn (Michelle Buteau), having grown up together in NYC, now firmly in different phases of adulthood. When carefree and single Eden decides to have a baby on her own after a one-night stand, their friendship faces its greatest challenge. ‘Babes’ delves into the complexities of female friendship with a blend of laughter, tears, and labor pains. From co-writers Ilana Glazer and Josh Rabinowitz and directed by Pamela Adlon, ‘Babes’ is a hilarious and heartfelt comedy about the bonds of friendship and the messy, unpredictable challenges of adulthood and becoming a parent.”
Babes hits theaters on May 17. That’s less than a trimester away!
