It’s Cat and (Henry) Cavill in the ‘Argylle’ trailer

Remember when Matthew Vaughn used to make something other than spy movies? It was a long, long time ago, but Vaughn actually helped introduce the most recent James Bond to the world in Layer Cake. He made superhero movies, even! But after the Kingsman movies, it seems the dude has settled firmly into a lane: Making campy Bond knock-offs that might be kinda fun. Or, in the case of that second Kingsman movie, no fun whatsoever. Argylle, his latest, is a particularly goofy take on it: It’s about a spy novelist — complete with cat — who finds herself plunged into the world she writes about in her novels about a super spy (played by the most handsome man alive, Henry Cavill). This is a big production — Universal and Apple are linking up to get this one out — and the two dropped the first trailer for the movie earlier on Thursday. Meow.

Peep it:

Here’s a synopsis:

“The greater the spy, the bigger the lie. From the twisted mind of Matthew Vaughn (‘Kingsman’ franchise, ‘Kick-Ass’) comes ‘Argylle’, a razor-witted, reality-bending, globe-encircling spy thriller.

Bryce Dallas Howard (‘Jurassic World’ franchise) is Elly Conway, the reclusive author of a series of best-selling espionage novels, whose idea of bliss is a night at home with her computer and her cat, Alfie. But when the plots of Elly’s fictional books — which center on secret agent Argylle and his mission to unravel a global spy syndicate — begin to mirror the covert actions of a real-life spy organization, quiet evenings at home become a thing of the past.

Accompanied by Aiden (Oscar winner Sam Rockwell), a cat-allergic spy, Elly (carrying Alfie in her backpack) races across the world to stay one step ahead of the killers as the line between Elly’s fictional world and her real one begins to blur.”

Argylle hits theaters on February 4. Don’t even begin to ask when it’ll be on Apple TV+, because Apple doesn’t know yet. Maybe you can watch it on the VR headset — from the cat’s perspective. That’d be cool
