Editor’s Note: The summer is finally here, and with it, the delicate New England balance between cold and rainy days and uncomfortably humid nights. What helps with keeping that balance bearable is the fact that indoor spaces are air conditioned, and most comedy shows are indoors (you see where we’re going with this, right?). With homegrown talent, national headliners, and open mics galore highlighting the calendar, the plethora of powerful comedy throughout the commonwealth continues to show up, night after night. Enter Mic’d Up, our ongoing weekly series that details the best live comedy shows to consider as you head out and about. Below find our rundown for this week, through Sunday (June 11).
Randy Feltface at The Wilbur
Whether it’s stories about literary giants, poetically-crafted social observations, or long-winded diatribes on philosophical ponders, Randy Feltface may be plushy, but he’s also easily one of the hardest-hitting comedy voices in the game today. Any chance to check him out should be taken, as he puts the “felt” in “heartfelt” time after time.
RANDY FELTFACE :: Thursday, June 8 at The Wilbur Theatre, 246 Tremont St. in Boston, MA :: 6:30 p.m., $25 to $35 :: Advance Tickets
Tina Fey & Amy Poehler at MGM Music Hall at Fenway
You just can’t keep this two-headed comedy dragon down. After years of calling for the dynamic duo to bring their chemistry and friendship on the road, the comedy gods have finally listened to our prayers. What makes it even better is watching Burlington native Poehler throw down on a hometown stage.
TINA FEY & AMY POEHLER :: Friday, June 9 at MGM Music Hall at Fenway, 2 Lansdowne St. in Boston, MA :: 7 and 10 p.m., Sold Out :: Advance Tickets
Mike Cannon at Laugh Boston
He’s never not crushing it, and when Cannon makes his way back to Boston after two new specials and headlining NYC’s Gramercy Theatre, it’s safe to assume the driving force he’s feeling right now will bring that energy even harder this time around.
MIKE CANNON :: Friday, June 9 and Saturday, June 10 at Laugh Boston, 425 Summer St. in Boston, MA :: 7 p.m. (Friday), 7 and 10 p.m. (Saturday), $33:: Advance Tickets
Shawn Carter’s Album Recording at The Rockwell
The pride of Bristol, Tennessee (by way of Boston) makes his special return home to record a new album. Bringing the comedic power he’s harnessed as co-owner and showrunner at Blue Ridge Comedy Club, Carter returns to ye olde stomping grounds for a celebratory homecoming that is sure to carry all the jokes and stories we’ve come to miss hearing from Carter on the daily.
SHAWN CARTER’S ALBUM RECORDING :: Sunday, June 11 at The Rockwell, 255 Elm St. in Somerville, MA :: 7 and 9 p.m., $25 :: Advance Tickets
