Meg Smith dismisses a platonic soulmate on ‘breakup with a friend’

Via Facci PR

Are friendships OK? How about yours? We’re asking because it seems splitting with a bestie is the new breaking up with a lover, and the latest entry into this new world of self-care and realization comes from viral singer-songwriter Meg Smith. This past Friday (April 21) the Brooklyn-based, Los Angeles-raised artist dropped her slinky pop-fueled alt-rock track “breakup with a friend,” detailing the new kind of sadness that comes when it’s time to remove a toxic BFF from our lives. Hey, sometimes it’s necessary. And Smith went through it, like most of us do, apparently.

“The biggest heartbreak I ever felt was a friendship breakup,” she says. “Some people feel like platonic soulmates, so when the friendship ends, it’s overwhelming. I felt like I had to write a song that expressed all the frustration and heartache I felt.”

Smith just recently played Boston, opening up for Holden Miller a few weeks back at The Red Room at Cafe 939. We have a feeling she’ll be back fairly soon, armed with more indie-pop goodness like this, and holding court at her own headline gigs.
