Anna of the North employs idle hands with her stop-motion video for ‘Swirl’

We love it when life imitates art, and art imitates life. For Anna of the North, that sometimes means exploring the themes of her music in creative ways, like the new stop-motion animation video for her new single “Swirl,” created by the Norwegian singer-songwriter. The jangly new indie-pop single is part of the deluxe edition of last fall’s Crazy Life album, dubbed Crazy Life Deluxe and due April 28 via Elektra Records, and “Swirl,” one of three new tracks on the re-release, is all about falling into old patterns and becoming comfortable with dissatisfaction.

“I wanted to extend the ‘Crazy Life’ world with this music video. I didn’t know how, but eventually, I figured it out. Claymation,” Anna says. “It took forever, but it was really fun seeing the end result. Maybe one day I’ll become a stop-motion filmmaker. ‘Swirl’ is a song all about having too much time on your hands by yourself. This music video definitely had me thinking about things other than how lonely life can be.”

In addition to the Crazy Life Deluxe rollout, Anna will be back on North American shores for a string of dates starting this week, including a March 21 romp at Brighton Music Hall in Allston. Watch “Swirl” below and you scan through all her upcoming live dates.
