Mic’d Up: Theo Von, Tiny, Brieana Woodward & Al Christakis, Luis Gomez

Via The Wilbur

Editor’s Note: While the month of March is most often closely associated with shamrocks, Guinness, and Dropkick Murphys becoming everyone’s favorite band for a few weeks, look no further than right here for your pot o’ gold at the end of the comedy rainbow. With homegrown talent, national headliners, and open mics galore highlighting the calendar, the plethora of powerful comedy in and around the city continues to bring a level of madness that can’t even be topped by the top-seeded basketball program in the nation. As the days (hopefully) become warmer and we start to thaw from the bitterness chill of winter, we always want to make sure you know about cool stuff going on in the world of comedy. Enter Mic’d Up, our ongoing weekly series that details the best live comedy shows to consider as you head out and about. Below find our rundown for this week, through Sunday (March 5).

Theo Von at The Wilbur

He’s called the Rat King for a reason. In addition to the devout following he’s amassed through his stand-up and podcast, This Past Weekend, Von has chewed his way into his own little crawl space in comedy where his unique thought process and delivery have thrived and brought him into the conversation with the most consistently killing comics in the game today.

THEO VON :: Wednesday, March 1 to Sunday, March 5 at The Wilbur Theatre, 246 Tremont St. in Boston, MA :: Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 6 and 8:45 p.m., Sunday at 6 p.m., $35 to $55 :: Advance Tickets

Brieana Woodward & Al Christakis at Clover Road Brewing

The most dynamic duo since Han and Chewie are back in the states after a quick romp through Canada, and boy golly, do they have a great night cooked up to welcome them back. In addition to their own respective potencies, the first night of the new showcase will also feature Liam McGurk, Brian Sullivan, Zack Stewart, and Jack Hall.

COMEDY NIGHT AT CLOVER ROAD BREWING :: Thursday, March 2 at Clover Road Brewing, 312 Main St. in Hudson, MA :: 7:30 p.m., $12.51 to $55.20 :: Advance tickets

Tiny‘s Album Recording at Midway Café

You can’t get much more punk rock than playing in intimate dives and working alongside your local comrades, and come later this week, Tiny has all the bases covered to accomplish a milestone. Catch the comedy vet at his finest as he records his first comedy special, while also sharing the stage with Angela Sawyer, Jack Hall and the evening’s host Rob Crean.

TINY’S ‘SPOON SPECIAL’ ALBUM RECORDING :: Friday, March 3 at Midway Café, 3496 Washington St. in Jamaica Plain, MA :: 9 p.m., 21-plus, $10 :: Advance Tickets

Luis J. Gomez at Roar! Comedy Club

Much like his brothers in the Legion of Skanks camp, Gomez isn’t afraid to make you squirm. If that’s your thing, then you’re in for a hell of a good time. Even if it’s not your thing, Gomez provides a very honest and upfront approach to his comedy where what you see is what you get, and what you get is one of the hardest grinding comics in the game who doesn’t shy away from speaking his truth — even if it isn’t the most popular outlook.

LUIS J. GOMEZ :: Friday, March 3 and Saturday, March 4 at Roar! Comedy Club, 1 MGM Way in Springfield, MA :: Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., $25 :: Advance tickets
