Boston music has allegedly lost a giant in the scene this week, as word that Jefe Replay has died has spread across social media on Friday (November 18). No official word or cause has been given, but many musicians across the city were quick to pay tribute with accolades and condolences.

“Times like these are hard to fathom,” Megazoyd posted on Instagram. “Unfortunately a high quality artist has left today on this earth. He was an artist that will always have your stomach hurting for laughing so much. He was top notch when it came to visuals and placement of sound. It’s an honor performing a hype live show and witnessing your 1st @bostonmusicawards unsigned artist of the year 2019. R.I.P. to @jefereplay.”

“As a close peer of mine, I feel like I’m responsible to say something about the greatness of Replay,” shared Boston artist Vixxle on Instagram. “I first met Replay at laced and we started battle rapping. It got intense to the point where it was getting crazy. We both stood our ground and that right there was the solidification of our bond. Replay was really one of the greats from Boston. Not only was all his drops fire, every time he would drop music it was an event. It would brighten everyone’s day. This man has inspired me to keep going and not give a fuck what people think and just go hard. It’s tough that this is happening. I know his legacy will live on and his music will bump forever. RIP to a real one.”

Others recalled Replay’s devoted following, his sold-out show at the Middle East, and his outpouring of support for other creatives.

“No words right now,” mourned Boston rapper Brandie Blaze. “@jefereplay you were always such a sweetheart to me and a fucking rockstar. Getting to perform together at the BMAs, you were just incredible to watch. You would hang from rafters, jump off shit, just amazing. Fly high Jefe!”

Some artists, like Millyz and Juxi, turned to twitter to express their condolences.

We’ll publish more information as soon as it becomes available. RIP.
