Preoccupations enter a darker ‘gaze with the driving ‘Death of Melody’

They may come from the cold, but Preoccupations bring the heat to every stage they play. Today (July 26) the Canadian post-punk band offer up a driving and dark new tune called “Death of Melody,” the latest from forthcoming fourth studio LP Arrangements, out September 9 via Flemish Eye Records. Wonderfully described as “a deeper level of avant pop, a shimmery mine of dystopian glam,” it should sound quite massive when the group tours North America this fall.

“It’s about having a song stuck in your head, and having no idea what it is, and driving yourself to the brink of dementia trying to figure out what it is” says bassist/vocalist Matt Flegel. “It’s about knowing and forgetting, existing in the middle ground between the permanent and temporary.”

Sounds like us on a Wednesday. Fire up “Death of Melody” below, and scan through all Preoccupations continental dates, including a November 21 twirl at The Sinclair in Cambridge, after the Spotify jump.
