SuperSmashBroz have a flair for throwing the best summer bashes in Boston. Following the success of their No Hype Fest — which kicked off in 2019 at the Institue of Contemporary Art, and continued last year at Underground at Ink Block — the DJ duo have plans to take over Big Night Live next week for Plus One, their newest party series.
The festivities bring a roster of New England DJs to the TD-Garden-adjacent nightclub on Friday (July 22), featuring sets from DJ Sisko, DJ Real P, Towfu, Mozes, Where’s Nasty, and SuperSmashBroz themselves (pictured above). Two Toronto-based artists make the journey South to join the bill as well: Just Jenneh and Killa Kels.
While the inaugural Plus One debuted only a few months ago at Brighton Hall, the series has already made major strides across the dance floor. By expanding to Big Night Live, the event now boasts three times the capacity, literally allowing more guests to bring a plus one…or plus five.
“The premise of the title is to promote an inclusionary environment where young professionals and social influencers feel inclined to invite one (or more!) of their peers to join in for an unforgettable experience,” shares Noma Nomz, one half of SuperSmashBroz.
Plus One’s partnership with the Red Sox demonstrates a major level-up for the budding series as well. Apparently, when SuperSmashBroz linked up with the Sox last April to help model the team’s new “City Connect” uniforms, they left a lasting impression.
“This is one of our marquee summer events in Boston and partnering up with such a legendary organization such as the Red Sox was big for showcasing Boston’s true culture,” adds Muyi Fresco. “It isn’t just the stuff you see on TV, this city is full of diverse and immensely creative people — we’re just doing our part to put a microscope on it. Since we first became a part of the Nike x MLB City Connect campaign, both the Sox and us had mutual interest in partnering up to help provide the region with exciting and fresh activations that still feel authentic. We’re ecstatic it has taken form via Plus One.”
