Cannes Film Festival 2022: Here’s the lineup, from ‘Maverick’ to ‘Elvis’

For pretty much every film nerd on Earth not either in the industry or absolutely fucking loaded, looking at the Cannes Film Festival lineup when it drops each year is a lot like window-shopping at a designer store when you’re broke. So many beautiful-looking films in such a gorgeous location with so much wild and wacky shit going on behind the scenes — walkouts, backroom deals, publicity stunts on yachts — it’s pretty hard to ever imagine going there when you’re getting yelled at by a manager for spending two minutes too long in the bathroom. But it’s also a good chance to preview the Year in Cinema based on the line-up alone, and it’s looking like we’re gonna have a pretty good one.

The 2022 edition of the festival has new films from David Cronenberg, James Gray, Kelly Reichardt, Park Chan-Wook, and Hirokazu Kore-Eda in competition and a few big premieres, like Top Gun: Maverick and Baz Lurhmann’s Elvis. We’re most excited to see what folks make of George Miller’s new film, Three Thousand Years of Longing, so much so that we’re debating taking out a second mortgage to see it premiere in person.

The Cannes Film Festival will run from May 17 through 28, and we’ll surely hear more about whatever nuttiness will go down on the Rivera this year in the coming weeks. Here’s the full line-up via Deadline:
