Boston Calling to make ‘announcement’ on Wednesday, and an emoji may hold a clue

UPDATE, April 6 at 12:01 p.m. EDT: It’s Nine Inch Nails.

Even since the tragic death last month of Taylor Hawkins and Foo Fighters immediate cancelation of all upcoming live appearances, there has been a headliner-sized hole in Boston Calling’s 2022 lineup. The festival currently has an open slot atop its Friday slate, joining The Strokes and Metallica as headliners for its three-day Memorial Day weekend festivities at Allston’s Harvard Athletic Complex. On Wednesday (April 6), we may, or we may not, get word on who the replacement headliner will be.

Boston Calling teased an announcement on social media this afternoon, posting a graphic with the words “Announcement Tomorrow” and a caption that simply states “noon.” Attached to the caption is an emoji of a human hand with its nails getting painted.

And that’s led many to speculate on what what it could mean.

If it’s a headliner hint, a few immediately come to mind — like Nine Inch Nails, Lizzo, or even Machine Gun Kelly.

Or maybe it’s just a new beauty sponsorship. For the record, we already made a public pitch for it to be Harry Styles last week.

We’ll find out tomorrow. In the meantime, head over to bostoncalling.com for the latest information and ticket info.
