Bloc Party find tenderness in a world of chaos on ‘If We Get Caught’

Bloc Party’s catalogue is filled with a wonderful type of brazen duality — kinetic dance-floor bangers like “Banquet” and “Flux” are weaved through a sonic tapestry that shows a more sincere and dedicated side in tracks like “This Modern Love” and “I Still Remember.” The British band and indie-aughts survivalists are now showing the same type of flex in their forthcoming new record Alpha Games, as lead single “Traps” ripped through our playlist with furious abandon, only to be met with a beautiful sentimentality on forth single “If We Get Caught,” which hits the streams today (March 24).

“There are only two songs that I feel like have any tenderness on the record and ‘If We Get Caught’ is one of them,” says Bloc Party singer, songwriter and guitarist Kele Okereke. “It’s really about recognizing that the game is coming to an end and about trying to steal a moment of tenderness with your partner before the curtain comes crashing down. I think it’s about trying to find moments where you can really connect with someone amidst all of the chaos that’s going on in the world.”

Truly a sound for our times. Listen to “If I Get Caught” below, check out thoughts on Alpha Games‘ January single “The Girls Are Fighting”, and find the new LP when it hits April 29 via Infectious/BMG.
