UPDATE 5:27 p.m. EDT: Tonight and tomorrow’s shows have been postponed, according to Bowery Boston, “due to a positive COVID test in the Mitski touring party. New dates will be announced soon and tickets will be honored.”

A Mitski Monday is the best type of Monday, and a Mitski Monday is what we have in store tonight (March 21). With shiny new music venue Roadrunner christened last week by a grand opening slate of shows that included Billy Strings, Khruangbin, and Dropkick Murphys, it’s now Mitski’s turn to hit the Brighton joint for the first of two appearances that continue tomorrow. Both will showcase the Japanese-American singer-songwriter’s acclaimed February album Laurel Hell.

It’ll be a dance party on a Monday. And the themes swirling around the follow-up to 2018’s Be the Cowboy makes tonight’s gig a perfect partner date. “I needed love songs about real relationships that are not power struggles to be won or lost,” Mitski says of the LP in a statement around its release. “I needed songs that could help me forgive both others and myself. I make mistakes all the time. I don’t want to put on a front where I’m a role model, but I’m also not a bad person. I needed to create this space mostly for myself where I sat in that gray area.”

Check out our live reviews of Mitski through the years — 2016 at The Paradise; 2018 at House of Blues — and get ready to dance like it’s Friday once “The Only Heartbreaker” comes up on the setlist. Get tickets for both nights, and venue information, via roadrunnerboston.com.
