PAINLESS, the new album from Nilüfer Yanya that dropped this past Friday (March 4), will have three lifespans: The now, in this effervescent post-release glow as media accolades come tumbling in; the later, around December when it appears on everyone’s Best of 2022 lists; and the ever-after, as it sits amongst the records we’ll keep going back to years later. The sophomore effort from the English songwriter is an intrepid affair through the pitfalls and trappings of modern life, and second track “L/R” is the one that has resonated with us the most so far, a wavy R&B-dented pop-rock tune with a sneaky underbelly that never loses its whip-smart balance.
