It’s Cyber Monday, which means the entire world is fighting an army of bots and scalpers to try and claim what we all believe will be our PlayStation 5 from an online retailer. But, in this newfound and ugly digital age, have you missed sensuality? Missed desire? Missed four-alarm camp about male strippers in Miami just havin’ a ball with one another? Well, you’re in for a treat. According to Deadline, writer-star Channing Tatum, writer Reid Carolin, and director Steven Soderbergh (who retires and returns about as much as Urban Meyer does, but has the decency to make movies about lap dances rather than getting them at his Chili’s equivalent) will reunite for another Magic Mike film, this time entitled Magic Mike’s Last Dance, which we’re presuming is about Mike getting the flu and still having to perform in a Utah strip club.
Tatum announced the news on social media this morning by posting a picture of the script’s cover page. Here’s the tweet that relit a thousand thirsts and burnt down the walls of propriety:
According to Deadline, it seems that the Magic Mike live show, as well as the reality series that premieres on HBO Max later in the month, inspired Soderbergh and company to return to the franchise. Here’s what the director is quoted as saying in the article:
‘As soon as I saw what Channing, Reid, and the ‘Magic Mike’ choreographic team did with the live show, I said, ‘We have to make another movie.’ Mike Lane’s dream of connecting people through dance must be realized.’
We’re also including this goofy quote from Tatum in here as well because come on, where else are you ever going ever read the final word in this quote?
“There are no words for how excited I am to blow the doors off of the world of ‘Magic Mike’ with Steven, Greg, Reid, and the amazing people at HBO Max. The stripperverse will never be the same.”
Stripperverse! God bless Tatum — that’s fucking hilarious. Anyhow, Magic Mike’s Last Dance will premiere on HBO Max at some point in the future. Are we incredibly disappointed we won’t get to check this one out with a large audience? Yeah, pretty much. But are we still happy we’re getting one last ride with this crew of buds?
Hell yeah. We can’t wait.
