Lanterns On The Lake have always been about stirring emotions, and today the British indie band return with a new track that does just that. It’s called “Baddies,” and gliding above the song’s rustling glisten is a lyrical spin that reflects the dangers of modern times — and our roles within it.
“‘Baddies'” is a song about the rising tide of anger and hate in the world that seems to have been unleashed over the last few years, with those in positions of power and influence actively encouraging it for their own ends, and the polarization of society as a result,” says vocalist Hazel Wilde. “It is about the need for the individual, the underdog, to stand up to it, but the fact that in doing so we become part of it. We become someone else’s baddie.”
Aside from this call to action, “Baddies” also acts as the second offering from Lanterns On The Lake’s forthcoming album Spook The Herd, their first new LP in five years, which hits February 21 via Bella Union.
