Hey, remember that weird Guillermo del Toro-produced, Scott Cooper-directed horror flick Antlers? You know, the one starring Keri Russell and Jesse Plemons that looked kind of cool but needed just a little more oomph, perhaps, to really sell us on it (cue the Blades of Glory quote from “N****s in Paris” here)? Well, Fox Searchlight dropped a new trailer for the film on Wednesday, probably to celebrate the fact that they finally slated the motherfucker for release, and it’s actually pretty cool and atmospheric, all things considered. We’re still worried about getting screwed over by another Scott Cooper movie, but guess what: if you like practical effects and swell make-up, you might want to watch this as soon as possible.
Take a look:
Whoops! Shit, that was the wrong Antlers. We’re sorry for the inconvenience, folks. Here’s the real trailer for Antlers.
Boy, that’s a pretty cool trailer!
We’re still skeptical of all things Scott Cooper (and look, after the one-two punch of Black Mass and Hostiles, we’re allowed to be, honestly), but we can’t deny how cool the effects look and how solid the editing is here. Will Del Toro’s influence moderate all of the things that we hate about Cooper’s style? Will Keri Russell surprise us all by revealing that this whole project is a secret reboot of Felicity (We really want this to be Felicity: The Return, honestly)? Will this wind up being a story about a boy and his deer-monster thing? Only time will tell.
Here’s a synopsis:
“In ‘Antlers’, a small-town Oregon teacher (Keri Russell) and her brother (Jesse Plemons), the local sheriff, discover that a young student (Jeremy T. Thomas) is harboring a dangerous secret with frightening consequences.”
Good news, though! Antlers finally has a release date. Bad news: It’s coming out April 17. So there goes your fun January movie outing, friends. Oh well.
