We’ve long sung the praises of the annual JP Music Festival, a free, all-ages, all-inclusive end-of-summer celebration going down at Pinebank Field on the northeast corner of Jamaica Pond. But with this year’s 9th edition set for Saturday (September 7), we’ll now allow the performers to do some singing for the masses.
This year’s lineup features an eclectic and diverse mix of sounds — something organizers have really nailed in recent years — with the air filled by 21 bands and artists joining in for what’s billed as “a celebration of the music and incredible musicians of Jamaica Plain.”
While last year’s lineup was heavy on the headliners, this year’s gathering feels a bit more balanced, with a strong slate of performers lining the lineup throughout its seven hours of programming. Among the acts playing JP Music Fest this year are Diablogato, Motel Black, No/Hugs, Muhammad Seven & the Spring, Walter Sickert and the Army of Broken Toys, Gentle Temper, and a host of other names we’re relatively unfamiliar with. And that’s part of the fun.
To get familiar — or to lock in a band you definitely don’t want to miss while you’re chilling on the grass or hitting up the food trucks — listen to the official JP Music Festival playlist below.
Full lineup after the jump.
