Phoebe Ryan brings friends along to ‘Build Me Up’

Look we’re kinda bummed out.

When Carly Rae Jepsen revealed her “Dedicated” tour a few weeks ago, we saw that New Jersey-born, Los Angeles-based, and Vanyaland-adored alt-pop singer Phoebe Ryan was opening a handful of dates. But while Jepsen’s tour comes to Boston’s House of Blues on Tuesday (July 16), Ryan doesn’t join on as opener until July 20 in Philly.

Boo.

Luckily, we have the music to get us by, and comfort in the notion that those who do catch Ryan opening for Jepsen across 15 dates this month and next are in for a treat.

One of the jams they’ll no doubt be hearing is “Build Me Up,” a slick, uplifting alt-pop bop that’s feels almost tribal in its tumbling rhythm. And it’s all about friendship… something we all can use a bit more of.

“‘Build Me Up’ is about a friend I met on Tinder a few years ago,” Ryan says. “He was my spirit animal from the start, and inspired me to feel good about life and living it to the fullest at a time when that wasn’t so easy for me. It’s a bop about friendship and wanting to feel good, what more could you ask for?”

Other than more Phoebe Ryan in Boston, not a whole lot.
