The ‘Rambo: Last Blood’ trailer shows off Stallone’s bloody final outing

The path to get Rambo 5 to the big screen is at least as long as one of Sylvester Stallone’s varicose veins, (remember when this was going to be a movie in which Rambo faced off against murderous werewolves — literal coyotes — on the Texas-Mexico border?) and it seems that we’ve finally hit an artery. That’s right, Lionsgate dropped a big new trailer for the officially titled Rambo: Last Blood on Thursday afternoon, which is a bit of an odd choice, given that, you know, they ruled the box office two weeks ago with John Wick: Chapter 3. But hey, it’s set to the Billy Ray Cyrus bits of Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road,” so how much can you really complain about marketing strategies when you’ve got such a choice soundtrack cut playing out over death and destruction?

Take a look:

So, that looks pretty much like the gloriously trashy exploitation that we’ve come to expect from the latter-day Rambo films (that’s also the church we belong to, in case you really wanted to know), and we are very much here for it. Old Man Stallone has done some brilliant work over the last couple of years, and he’s done some terrible movies as well — anybody remember Bullet to the Head? That’s what we thought (and it’s a bummer that it overshadowed Arnold’s The Last Stand when that solid-as-fuck genre exercise hit theaters right around the same time). Let’s hope that this is one of the good ones.

Here’s an official synopsis:

Almost four decades after he drew first blood, Sylvester Stallone is back as one of the greatest action heroes of all time, John Rambo. Now, Rambo must confront his past and unearth his ruthless combat skills to exact revenge in a final mission. A deadly journey of vengeance, ‘Rambo: Last Blood’ marks the last chapter of the legendary series.

Rambo: Last Blood hits theaters on September 20.
