Today’s a pretty big day in Passion Pit history, as Michael Angelakos’ Boston-born electro-pop project released its debut album Manners on this day 10 years ago. Next week the brilliant songwriter and producer returns to Boston as the Manners 10th anniversary tour hits the House of Blues, but today, at least, there’s reason to celebrate the present as well as the past. That’s because Passion Pit have teamed with with Swedish electro duo Galantis for a massive new dance-pop single called “I Found U.”
The track and all its polish and vibrancy, has Angelakos’ unmistakable traces all over it, including within the lyrics, where he reflects on his recent struggles with mental illness. “Look, look and see, just look how bad these last few years were to me,” he sings, “They brought me lower than you’d ever believe. No light to look up to.”
From here, the only place to go is higher and higher and higher and higher: “Life was fleeting then I found you,” Angelakos offers in the chorus.
