Kero Kero Bonito eye a safe ‘Open Road’ as they return to North America

New Sounds: It'll take more than bad winter roadways and petty crooks to slow down Kero Kero Bonito, who drop a new 7-inch in May

Full admission: Our heads are still spinning from Kero Kero Bonito’s sold-out show in Allston back in October. As the multi-national indie-pop trio prepare a return to North America, hitting up the other side of the country as they make their way to Coachella appearances in April, they’ve announced a new 7-inch set for release May 17.

The record features Time ‘n’ Place track “Swimming” as the a-side, with new song “Open Road” on the flip. Kero Kero Bonito say the upbeat, fuzzy “Open Road” is a song “about our North America tour last year, including anecdotes about the time a lorry nearly jackknifed into us in a blizzard and getting robbed in San Francisco.”

The former experience inspired the lyric “We came to a halt in the snow / Swerving on the wet slush below / Just as well we did ‘cos / That lorry in front of us / Was gonna tip over” while the latter paved the way for “Way out on the north golden coast / Just as we were ready to go / Bandits broke into the van / And took all we had.”

We hope this next run is a bit less stressful, and we know it’ll take more than bad winter roadways and petty crooks to slow down Kero Kero Bonito. Peep all the dates below, and pre-order the new 7-inch here via Polyvinyl.
