Britney Spears postpones Las Vegas shows, goes on ‘indefinite hiatus’

The pop star has decided to dedicate her "focus and energy" to her family, citing her father's recent health problems

With a little more than a month to go until the debut of her second Las Vegas residency, Britney Spears has postponed the entire slew of shows, citing her father’s health as a major concern.

“I don’t even know where to start with this, because this is so tough for me to say,” she shared on twitter. “I will not be performing my new show Domination. I’ve been looking forward to this show and seeing all of you this year, so doing this breaks my heart.”

According to her website, she will be on “indefinite hiatus” and has postponed her Domination Las Vegas shows due to her father’s “recent life-threatening health issues.”

Her residency at the Park Theater in the Park MGM hotel and casino was scheduled to debut on February 13 this year. She had more than 30 shows booked at the venue through August 17, 2019.

“I am dedicating my focus and energy to care for my family. We have a very special relationship and I want to be with my family at this time just like they have always been there for me,” she said in her official statement from her website. “Thank you to all my fans for your continued love and support during this time. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and I look forward to the time when I can be back on stage performing for all of you.”

According to TMZ, Spears’ father Jamie recently suffered from a ruptured colon, which sent him to the hospital. On twitter, Spears elaborated on the recent occurrences with her father: “It’s important to always put your family first… and that’s the decision I had to make. A couple of months ago, my father was hospitalized and almost died. We’re all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him.”

Spears’ website notes that refunds are available at the original point of purchase.
