Soccer Mommy and Ratboys live at Brighton Music Hall in Allston

Editor's Note: In a Vanyaland interview published last week, Marissa Nadler told us: "I think women have always been writing great songs. I just think people are paying more attention ...there maybe isn’t such a rise in the female voice as there is an opening of awareness in the need for equality." One of the talents that's garnered a healthy amount of due praise this year has been Nashville's Sophie Allison, who brought her band Soccer Mommy to town Friday night (December 7) for a sold-out show at Allston's Brighton Music Hall. Soccer Mommy are a part of a new wave of guitar-rock, alongside the likes of Big Thief, Snail Mail, and others, and in March released the acclaimed LP Clean. Those songs and more were showed off on Friday night, and Vanyaland's John Hutchings was there to capture snaps of Soccer Mommy and the show's opener, Chicago's Ratboys.
