Return The 'Gaze: Listen to 'Lovelife, A Homage To Lush'

From news of a forthcoming Lemonheads album to dream-pop renditions of classic Misfits songs, it’s pretty much been “covers day” here at Vanyaland, and that’s quite alright since Halloween is almost upon us.
Wrapping up a bit of a triple-play homage is the latest full-album offering from Brazil’s The Blog That Celebrates Itself, which, after running through dozens and dozens of tribute albums, finally turns its gazey attention to Lush.
The British shoegaze-turned-Britpop group is covered thoroughly among the 18 tracks featured here on Lovelife, A Homage To Lush, which you can stream and/or download via Bandcamp below.
Our fave, without a doubt, is Los Angeles’ Cherry Heaven and their battle-torn version of 1996 mega-jam “Ladykillers.” It’s fun to hear the lyrics from a male’s perspective, and the band does some interesting things to the barnstorming single’s familiar pace and timing.

“Magic, beauty, inspiration, seduction are adjectives that since I first heard De-Luxe in the distant year of 1990 comes to my mind when I listen to one of those bands that live in the heart, Lush,” writes TBTCI Records’ Renato Malizia. “Many memories, many images, scenes of a lifetime had as soundtrack, ‘Thoughtforms’, ‘Sweetness and Light’, ‘Sunbathing’, ‘Breeze’, ‘Scarlet’, ‘Monochrome’, ‘Desire Lines’… the list could go on and on… I’ve never had the pleasure of seeing them live, but a dream can always happen anytime, just believe! And that’s how I feel when I hear the magic of Lush’s music, a world of dreams.”
There’s a lot to unpack here, so take your time canvassing Lush’s music filtered through the ideas and tributes of others. And for the real deal, check out our full photo gallery of Lush’s Boston show at Royale in September 2016, by Ben Stas.
