After a 2017 that showed the world just how much of a comedy force he could be, this year has certainly provided a big payoff for Hasan Minhaj. And this Friday night (September 7), Boston gets to reap the benefits of it, as well.
With the force of his critically-acclaimed Netflix debut Homecoming King still behind him, the former Daily Show correspondent is sure bring his best comedy to Tremont Street, with a good dose of social commentary to boot. It was that mix of comedy and commentary, mostly through stories of his life growing up as a descendant of an immigrant family, that won Minhaj a Peabody Award this year, and while the prestigious honor could easily lead to a certain level of pretentiousness, he remains humbled by the recognition of his work.
“Very rarely do comedy specials get recognized on a platform like this, next to real journalism and documentaries, and ground-breaking television shows,” Minhaj said an interview with Peabody Conversations. “So I’m just really humbled by the fact that people thought the special resonated with them, and pushed the boundaries of what you can do in the medium of a comedy special.”
He’s already achieved some major feats in his career, with the last year being the bright and shining example, so if you have the chance to see him do his thing this weekend, you won’t want to miss it.
