The Brattle’s ‘All About the Chase’ series has us racing to Cambridge this weekend

We’ve spilled plenty of ink in this section about how much we love a good car chase (or a ridiculous one) and we think, that as a person with a pulse, you might have seen one or two that you’ve enjoyed in the past.

So, if you’re a living and breathing human who enjoys kinetic fuck-yeah capital-C Cinema, we highly recommend you get out to the Brattle Theatre starting this Friday (June 16), as the Cambridge spot’s “All About the Chase” series is chock-full of great films. And hey, there’s a free screening of Baby Driver involved, so it’s really worth your time.

Alongside mainstays like The Blues Brothers, The French Connection, and Vanishing Point, the Brattle’s going out of their way to highlight other classics that you might have missed. Showing with French Connection on Friday is the fascinating and underseen buddy comedy Freebie and the Bean, coming to you straight out of 1974, and paired with The Blues Brothers on Sunday (June 18) is the 1941 WC Fields laugh riot Never Give a Sucker an Even Break. It’s unlikely you’ll see those films on the big screen anytime soon, so if you’re a car chase aficionado, it might be well worth your time to just camp out in Harvard Square for the weekend (pit bull, heavy backpack, and stick-and-pokes optional).

It all builds up to Monday (June 19), when — and we’re not saying this lightly — the can’t-miss double feature of the year goes down. Walter Hill’s 1978 classic The Driver screens at 6 p.m., in glorious 35mm film (a rare treat in its own right!), before a free preview screening of Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver at 8 p.m., or as we like to call it, “the best damn film we’ve seen this year”.

Seriously, you won’t want to miss seeing this thing early, with a hype-as-fuck audience to bounce off. And the best part? If you’re one of the first 100 people to see The Driver earlier that evening, you’re guaranteed seating at the screening later that night. So if you go see some classic cinema, you’ll get rewarded with some truly brilliant fresh work.
