Watch Foster The People cover Ramones at a fan afterparty at Alchemy in Providence

It pays to give your favorite bands those Facebook likes. Foster The People, doing social media right, has been rewarding fans with a series of free afterparties on their latest tour run, announced only on the band’s social accounts. Last night (June 7), Providence became the latest city to hold a secret party, events dubbed by the band as Sacred Hearts Club shows, named after a track from Foster the People’s upcoming album.

After playing a show at Lupo’s, Foster the People headed to Alchemy, a decidedly more intimate second-floor club and music venue with a capacity of 261. Sets from Neutrinos and DJ Marc Clarkin rounded out the afterparty, which featured Foster The People playing in front of a glowing Sacred Hearts Club neon sign. The addition of the Neutrinos continued the trend of Foster The People picking up local punk bands for the casual, house-party-styled shows.

Foster The People let the cat out of the bag on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter shortly before doors opened at their scheduled show at Lupo’s. They followed up the post with a short video, promising a new song for the secret show. Viewed more than 21,000 times, overly-anxious fans eager for Foster The People to release their new album mused about the riff’s similarity to "Blitzkrieg Bop" -- some on Facebook even thought it sounded like Green Day and OK Go -- before finally accepting it was the Ramones classic.

Since kicking off their spring tour in San Diego on May 26, secret shows have taken place in Dallas, Tulsa, Cleveland, and now Providence. The band takes tonight off and picks up again tomorrow (June 9) at Thompson’s Point in Portland.
