We live in the age of the single, so one can argue there's no category of greater significance in the 2016 Boston Music Awards than Song of the Year. And with public voting set to conclude on that and more than 30 other categories this Sunday (cast your votes here and be heard), we figured it was high time to take a listen to the six tracks recognized as the finest to come out of Boston over the past year or so.
Much like the Video of the Year noms, the song category is a varied mix, though modern pop shines through on tracks from Air Traffic Controller ("On The Wire"), PVRIS ("You And I"), and Contact ("Never Stop"). Cousin Stizz ("Where I'm From") reps Boston's exploding hip-hop scene, Marissa Nadler brings the gothic chamber-pop vibes ("Janie In Love"), and Speedy Ortiz look to their guitars in hopes to repeat as Song of the Year champs (for "Death Note", which follow's last year's winner, "Raising The Skate").

The 2016 Boston Music Awards culminate with an awards ceremony at the House of Blues on December 8. That Monday prior, there is a public nomination party at Hojoko in the Fenway that features performances from Weakened Friends and Salem Wolves.
