Beyond Rowling: Fantastic film beasts, and where to stream them

We’re excited to finally watch Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the latest entry in J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter franchise (by the way, is it even okay to call it that when the movie’s set 70 years before he was born?). The film hits theaters Friday, and its focus on magical monsters and mischief got us thinking: What other creature features are able to stream online through the familiar services? Though we're past Halloween season and creepy critters have, for the most part, gone back under the beds of our imagination, we found eight great movies that we hope you’ll enjoy taking a peek at from the comfort of your home. Maybe you'll stuff one or two deep within the pockets of your mind before you head to the theater this weekend.

Destroy All Monsters

Hulu has an excellent selection of Kaiju movies on its streaming service, but we felt this 1968 classic would sate any monster lover’s desire for big ol’ lizard battles. Destroy All Monsters features the entire Toho kaiju cast (well, at least up until that point in history) fighting King Ghidorah over the fate of the Earth. It’s an incredibly weird movie with odd sexual politics, especially given that the whole thing is set into motion by a race of lady aliens, but there’s an undeniable awe to seeing Godzilla and all the others on the screen together fighting a common enemy. Oh, and that noise band with the same name was pretty cool, too. (Hulu)
