Sometime over the past few years, The Joy Formidable established themselves as one of the best rock and roll bands of our time. We’re not sure when it happened, but it sure as fuck did, and now here we are. Luckily for us, 2016 finds the Welsh alt-rock trio back in action after a brief breather, and today the Joy Formidable announced a new album, Hitch, and a world tour that comes to the Paradise Rock Club in Boston on April 12.
Hitch is out March 25 via Caroline Records and their own label, C’Mon Lets Drift, features 12 new tracks, and is the proper follow-up to 2013’s Wolf’s Law. The LP’s first single is “The Last Thing On My Mind”, and you can watch the video for the grooving, seductive track below.
Says singer/guitarist Rhiannon “Ritzy” Bryan about the song and video, via Pitchfork: “It’s a song about freedom, about feeling alive & a part of that is about sexual liberation too, which is why we wanted to make a music video from the perspective of a heterosexual female gaze. It shows men in many forms, being free, being sexy, being watched, it’s beautiful and provocative and is some small attempt to re-address the existing imbalance of perspective and nudity in music videos.”
