30 Parklives: Blur become video game characters in new video for ‘Ong Ong’

Blur released a new music video this morning for latest single “Ong Ong,” and it’s some parts “Parklife” and “Coffee & TV,” some parts Super Mario Bros and Sonic The Hedgehog, and all parts completely awesome.

The wacky animated video turns Blur into their own video game, bringing the return of the smiling bouncy ball from the “Go Out” video and unleashing it through a video game journey where at the end of each level it battles members of the reunited Britpop group.

In the clip, Damon Albarn is a tasty ice cream cone (so lickable), Graham Coxon is a life-sized cockroach, Alex James is some kind of inflatable red monster, and Dave Rowntree is an insect named Mr. Black. It makes sense.

Press play on “Ong Ong” below, and let’s all sit tight as we await Blur’s return to North America. Their latest album, The Magic Whip, was released in April to universal praise.

Credits for the uber-cool video are after the jump.
