Bring Me To Life: Penguin Prison takes Vérité to the disco with new remix of ‘Weekend’

We’ve been hyping the electro-pop gold coming from rising pop star Vérité for the past few weeks, all leading up to our V:Music launch party tomorrow night at TT The Bear’s Place in Cambridge. But while we’re madly in love with the singer’s original compositions, we’re taking a moment on the eve of the show to hype a new ultra-fresh disco-pop remix from fellow New York beat-maven Penguin Prison, which breathes additional life into an already lively ear-work track.

The remix is available for both your listening and downloading pleasures via the Soundcloud link below.

“Weekend,” in its original form, was featured on Vérité’s brilliant debut EP Echo. Penguin Prison’s work here was hyped last week by Spin, which also included the singer in its 5 Artists To Watch in November feature.

Spin writes:

At CMJ last month, this New York singer turned heads with her throbbing electro-pop-minded songs. Vérité worked closely with drummer and producer Ethan Jacobson on her recently released debut EP, Echo, which features four incredibly strong club-ready cuts. The title track pirouettes on itself as Vérité wraps her vocals around the in-your-face drum machine, but project-closer “Heartbeat” demonstrates a keen ear for songwriting. “We are dim romantic sparks / We all fall down / So we can all cover our eyes / Fun explosions in the skies,” Vérité coos, her vocals evoking those of Ingrid Michaelson or Sarah Bareilles — that is, if they were processed and packaged for late-night basement parties instead.

For the V:Music party tomorrow night, Vérité will be joined by two of our favorite home grown electronic pop acts, Pale Hands and Radclyffe Hall. Doors are at 8:30 p.m., and advance tickets are available here.
