Waiting On Youppi: Watch Arcade Fire’s Win Butler join Future Islands on stage in Montreal

Future Islands’ tasty pop tune “Seasons (Waiting On You)” became one of alt-rock’s biggest breakout hits with the help of David Letterman, who back in March had the Baltimore band as live guest on the Late Show. The result is a video that’s racked up nearly 2.5 million YouTube plays. “Seasons” has its own proper video, but they should have just scrapped it and used the Letterman clip, because that’s all anyone ever saw.

But now ol’ Dave has company, as it seems Win Butler is pitching in to the song’s forward march. Last night in Montreal, the Arcade Fire frontman joined Future Islands on stage at the Metropolis and, rather unannounced, came out to lend some vocals. It was very Vegas. Even the kinda-crappy fan made video captures the magic, and you can watch that below, via the NME. Butler sounds great for a guy who just wrapped up a summer tour of his own.

Meanwhile, Future Islands have some Boston business to tend to shortly, as they kick off the three-day Boston Calling Music Festival this weekend with an opening set Friday at 6:45 p.m. (sharp!) down at City Hall Plaza. Check out more of our Boston Calling coverage here, and start working on those Samuel T. Herring dance moves.
