T.T. The Bear’s is always great with this sort of thing. Last year some friends and I organized a benefit right after the Marathon; we raised good money for a local hospital, but it was also theraputic in getting friends together and process what happened.

For the fundraiser aspect T.T.’s has been awesome. They are basically giving the door after a few costs are covered. All the bands and Brian are donating their talents. Tickets are on-sale now and there are a few advanced left at $10 on ticketweb and then the cover will be $15 a head. If anyone wants to give more it will make the evening all the more successful. Now Narragansett is sponsoring the show so there might be an opportunity for some free beers or swag.

Aside from your own personal experience, how was your circle of friends and bands affected by last year’s tragedy? Everyone in town was affected by this…

Everyone has a story from that day. Like I said I am a nurse in a critical-care unit so my family at work were impacted by the events as they were caring for victims. It was such a surreal time. It’s like we went to work one day and we had secret service all around because Michelle Obama was coming to our unit. I was never prouder of my friends and colleagues at work.

As far as friends and bands that were affected I also think of Brian Smith, who is DJing that night, because he was there. He is on Boston EMS and was there. I have another friend who was a volunteer at the finishing line. They are heroes. Everyone down there. Nurses and docs in the EDs, ORs, and ICUs. They saved a lot of lives. I know people from every hospital in Boston, got to hear their stories from that day, 24 hours, that week. It is incredible and I am so proud to be a part of that community. And then there are the runners who I trained with. They all had the same dream as me. A lot of them had family and friends at the finish line. As training started for this year it has been great to see everyone who is coming back. I feel like there is this unspoken camaraderie between everyone. I can’t wait for Marathon Monday, but there is a lot of work to be done in the next few months.
